Throw out bearing going bad....
While
on my way to look at a parts Dakota, I heard a loud whining when I would depress the clutch to shift. Once shifted, the noise disappears, truck drives fine.
I was quoted about 4 hours to replaced the bearing. Trans has had some service done in the past, as you can see some gasket material squishing thru in some areas. I just wonder if I should add a rebuild kit to the job when the unit is pulled and can be worked on?
Add the timing chain replacement to the job and the dollars pile up.

There's gasket material on mine and I truly don't think the trans has ever been touched. I think they were messy with it from the factory. I could be wrong though.
I wouldn't get the trans rebuilt unless shifting is difficult (i.e. bad synchros) or the trans makes noise. Change the fluid and make sure if you have the AX15 that it is Yellow metal friendly fluid...For the brass synchros. Dunno what the NV3500 has for synchros.

If you drop the trans to replace the throw out bearing, might as well plan on a clutch, pressure plate, pilot bearing/bushing and flywheel resurface. My 90 has 30w non-detergent motor oil in the trans and transfer case. Originally it had auto trans fluid in both. Much quieter with 30w oil.

yup I had that on my 93, sounded like a scalded cat was only 5k on that clutch, went thu 2 "perfection" brand (made in China) in 11k miles, had to warranty the whole clutch kit they would not just warranty the bearing. I then went to a Luk brand clutch and put another 70k on the truck before it was killed by a bad wreck, clutch still goin strong.
