This article applies to the Dodge Ram (2009-present).

If you need to replace your turn light signal bulb(s), but don't want to deal with the hassle of removing your truck's grille and entire headlight assembly, then this is the guide for you. By following the DIY instruction outlined here, you can replace your turn light signal bulbs in as little as 5-10 minutes. Best of all, you won't need any specialized tools–just your bare hands and a replacement bulb(s). Once you have access to your old bulb, it's easy to install a new one. Your truck comes equipped with a wiring harness that securely holds the bulb in place, making this DIY project fast, easy and straightforward.

Materials Needed

  • Replacement bulbs

Step 1 – Access the wheel well

Start by popping the hood of your trunk. Next, locate the flap in your wheel well. Doing so will allow you to access your turn signal light bulb without needing to remove your truck's grille or entire headlight assembly. The small, plastic flap may be hard to access at first. Feel around the wheel well with an ungloved hand until you find and open it.

Pro Tip

You might want to turn your wheel inward to give yourself more room.

Step 2 – Unlock the safety clip and replace bulb

Once the flap is open, remove the safety clip from out of the lock position, and then turn the tab in a counter-clockwise direction, using force if needed. Remove the harness and bulb from the assembly.

  • Remove the old bulb and snap in a replacement.
  • Fit the harness and newly installed bulb back into place.
  • Grab the tab again, and then push it into place.
  • Turn the tab in a clockwise direction to complete this project.

To remove the bulb all you will need to do is pull it out using a slight wiggling motion, if necessary.

Step 3 – Visit your local Chrysler Dodge dealership

While an avid do-it-yourselfer could complete this project in under 30 minutes, it's also recommended that you consider visiting a local Chrysler Dodge dealership if you are the kind of person who values the convenience of having a pro do the job.

  • A trip to your local dealership could easily run you between $90 and $150, including parts and labor.
  • If you visit a local mechanic, you could save anywhere from $15 to $50 on the job.
  • It's recommended that you make a service appointment before showing up for faster, guaranteed service.
