Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio vs Tuned Chevy Camaro SS Drag Race

Discontinued but certainly not forgotten, this Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio more than holds its own against a modified rival.

In a day and age when there are copious numbers of highly-capable performance-focused vehicles out there to choose from spread across many manufacturers, it’s oftentimes easy to forget that the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio exists.

However, for those in the know, that sports sedan isn’t just quite capable in a straight line, but also, it’s rather adept at carving corners and simply putting a smile on one’s face every time they slip behind the wheel – even if for no other reason than to commute to work. Thus, we were certainly intrigued to see how the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio stacks up against a tuned Chevy Camaro SS in this recent video from Sam CarLegion.

Right off the bat, our host reveals that the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio is one of his very favorite sports sedans, and it’s easy to see why. We are talking about a car that comes equipped with a twin-turbocharged 2.9-liter V6 churning out 505 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque, an engine that is derived from a Ferrari powerplant.

As such, it sounds simply glorious and propels this sedan up to speed in short order, which makes it even more unfortunate that the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio ended production last summer and has been discontinued.

On this particular day, the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio is going up against a formidable foe – a Chevy Camaro SS that has been tuned and equipped with an aftermarket exhaust, along with some different wheels and tires, and it’s fitted with a manual gearbox.

The Camaro making around 510 horsepower at the crank (roughly 440 to the wheels), so this should theoretically be a pretty even matchup, at least, on paper. Of course, that isn’t always the case, and it isn’t here, either.

In the first roll race, the duo start at 37 mph, and it isn’t even close, as the Alfa simply leaves the Camaro in its dust. Thus, for the next race, they start at 49 mph, and it’s much tighter, with both crossing the line at nearly the same time. Thus, the duo move on to traditional drag races from a dig, and the gap grows quite wide as the Alfa puts a bus length or more on the Camaro by the time it crosses the finish line.

The final drag race seals the deal, with the Alfa completing 0-60 in 3.9 seconds and finishing the quarter-mile in 12.3 seconds, compared to the Chevy at 4.1 and 12.6 seconds, respectively – an impressive feat by any measure.
