Challenger Hellcat on Horse & Buggy Wheels Is both Fun and Ridiculous
This Challenger Hellcat turns back the clock a century or so and answers a question no one has or ever will ask.
Most that peruse YouTube at least occasionally know who Whistlin’ Diesel, or Cody Detwiler as he’s known in real life, is. That’s because Detwiler has accumulated nearly two million subscribers by pulling off some of the most ridiculous stunts in history, often destroying expensive trucks in the name of clicks and views. This successful formula of destruction recently put him in the hospital, but it also resulted in this humorous video of a Dodge Challenger Hellcat that’s inexplicably riding on horse and buggy wheels.
Few would even think such a thing was possible, but then again, essentially no one would ever want to make their Challenger Hellcat look like it just rolled here from a different century. Turns out, the process was actually quite easy, as Detwiler’s cohort simply welded some hubs on the old fashioned wheels and they bolted right up to the modern-day Dodge muscle car.
The other issue is, of course, safety. And surprisingly, Detwiler actually thought about this after a similar stunt using wooden horse and buggy wheels on his Chevy pickup didn’t pan out so well. This time around, he chose aluminum wheels for their added strength, and that turns out to be a wise choice. Shocking, they also seem to work pretty well, too. “Drives really nice, actually,” Detwiler says. “I’m pleasantly surprised – it’s like a normal car, it handles pretty good.”
As he drives around town in his Challenger Hellcat buggy, Detwiler draws some priceless reactions as well. Most people simply compliment him on the car, completely oblivious to the joke. At one point, a man asks him how fast the car will go, to which Detwiler humorously replies “I’ve got 699 more horses than the other buggies, so…” Then, he hits the drive-thru, where he finds out that they sadly don’t carry churned butter.
Amazingly enough, after driving around for a while and going speeds of up to 60 miles-per-hour, nothing breaks or goes wrong on this old-timey Hellcat. Thus, Detwiler decides to cap off the video the right way – with some smoky burnouts. As one might imagine, the skinny little wheels and tires can’t handle the Hellcat’s prodigious amounts of power, and immediately light up with a light press of the throttle.
The tiny tires come off pretty quickly, leaving just the wheels. But Detwiler doesn’t care, and simply keeps it going until the wheels cut giant grooves in the pavement like a hot knife through butter. Altogether, this video is an entertaining answer to a question no one ever asked, but that pretty much sums up most of Detwiler’s crazy stunts, in all fairness.
