Comedian Chris Farley Once Rocked a Viper RT/10 in His Collection

Chris Farley’s high energy is matched with high horsepower, and this RT/10 was one of the late actor’s rides at the height of his fame.

Chris Farley isn’t really a world-renowned gearhead. For comedians, Jay Leno and Jerry Seinfeld have that segment locked up. Still, Farley apparently enjoyed a slick ride, as evidenced by this 1995 Dodge Viper RT/10.

According to documents on Bring A Trailer, Farley bought this 1995 RT/10 used. He didn’t have the car for long, sadly. The purchase happened August 14th, 1997, and Farley would leave us just a little over 4 months later. Even in that short time, the Viper created waves and memories for Farley.

While we say he bought the car used, it wasn’t exactly a clunker. Additional sales info from the car show Farley made the purchase when the Viper had just a tick over 2000 miles on it. And the RT/10 still had street cred in ’97. The 8.0 liter V10 has 400 horsepower, and you’ll likely be driving with the car in pleasant weather mode, too. This model in 1995 still had the cloth top and zip-up windows. A tabloid photo reveals Farley did enjoy some fresh air motoring, as he was pulled over by a cop for speeding. No surprise there.

But even if Farley didn’t have much of a car collection as such, he still has a unique impact on car culture. The Plymouth Belvedere GTX from Tommy Boy is important enough to almost have its own starring role in the movie. The same could be said about the 1986 Ford Taurus from the same movie. And one could argue he made a Chrysler Lebaron look sweet in Beverly Hills Ninja.

Even more unique is the influence his family has on cars today. Chris’s cousin is Jim Farley, who just so happens to be Ford’s current CEO. In an article from Zenger, Jim Farley mentions Chris, saying “During the summers Chris would travel on the road with his dad in Wisconsin. Every family has that kid that entertains everyone. Chris was ours. God, we were lucky!” All of the on-the-road antics of Tommy Boy are inspired by Chris himself. And for that was say “thanks for the memories.”
