Daytona Dodge Charger Will Make any SRT Demon Weep

Demon blower and 200 shot of Nitrous give this Mopar huge power numbers.

Dodge hasn’t made a Charger Demon and we all know that. That sad truth hasn’t stopped some people from building their own, though. That’s what YouTuber R/T Life found out when he meet Mario, the owner of this Charger. Under the hood of this Charger Daytona lies a demon. In fact, it’s a whole lot more than a Demon.

Mario’s Charger started out as a 2017 Daytona but very soon had a Whipple supercharger installed. Horsepower was increased by a nominal amount, but that wasn’t quite enough. Now with a Demon blower under the hood, Mario is happy. Mario explains, “It’s a 2.7 liter instead of a 2.9 liter like the Whipple, but it is more efficient boost.” Here’s how the setup breaks down. The engine is a 426 Hemi with a Demon blower running E85. A custom camshaft and American Racing headers help it breathe even better than stock. For that extra kick, a 200 shot of nitrous is on tap.

Mario says, “on the dyno it is about 950 horsepower and 870 torque.” Through dyno losses, that’s about 1100 horsepower and 1000 torque at the crank. Problems can arise from power levels that high though. The transmission sometimes isn’t strong enough. Mario explains further, “that’s the thing with a Hellcat transmission. It’s a sealed unit.” For him that means there’s not really much of a chance to strengthen it, or to repair individual parts that may break with the application of over 1000 horsepower.

That’s about where Mario wants to be on his build as well. Going with some sort of race transmission would “ruin the streetability” of the car he said. It has reason to remain a mostly street car as well. With the amount of power he’s putting down, 9’s are safe to assume. At that point he’d do one pass and then be required to add a roll cage. Still, a street car with over 1000 horsepower is not going to be any sort of slouch. And when a Dodge Demon pulls up next to this Charger, they may get a bit of a surprise.
