Demon 170 Comes With $200,000 Dealer Markup

We all knew that the Demon 170 would bring some ridiculous markups, but this dealership in Washington State is on another level.
The Dodge Challenger Demon 170 is the fastest car Dodge has ever produced. Coupling its performance with its limited production was, without a doubt, a surefire way to drive some otherworldly asking prices. We’re not shy about the fact that we’re not big fans of dealer markups around here. t weeds out a healthy dose of genuine car enthusiasts from owning a car that they would genuinely appreciate it and, if we’re all honest, favors those with collecting habits and a big bank account. We’re not shy about the fact that we’re not fond of folks who buy cars intending to let them sit instead of being driven, either.
Unfortunately, that’s likely the outcome we’ll see for this Demon 170. This 2023 Challenger SRT Demon 170 is currently for sale at Renton Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Renton, Washington. While the original MSRP of the Demon 170 was out of reach for most at $96,666, this one comes with a much gnarlier price tag. We hope you’re sitting down for this one.
Eye-Watering “Dealer Installed Option”

The list of dealer-installed options for this beast of an automobile consists of three things. The “Nortwest Protection,” which we presume is a misspelled attempt at “Northwest,” is $2,495. We’re not entirely sure what it consists of, but that price doesn’t seem all too crazy for a dealership addition. It looks quite reasonable when you take a look at the “Market Adjustment” line; too, The dealership is asking for a $200,000 markup, bringing the total price to a tear-jerking $322,480 ikes.
With only 3,300 units coming from Dodge, we understand why dealerships want to wait out the highest bidder It’s a high-ticket item, and there’s no arguing that That said, it’s hard to imagine someone paying this sort of monumental markup for this car After all, that’s enough money to buy the absolute pinnacle of the FCA pricing scale: the Maserati MC20 As much as we love Dodge, the MC20 looks a bit more appropriate for the price tag Of course, if there’s one thing you can count on with a Demon 170, it’s resale value. Is it really worth over $300,000, though?
How Much is a Dodge Demon 170 Worth?

The great thing about such a desirable car is that you can count on someone somewhere to track the prices. In this case, Classic.com swoops in to save the day throughout May 2024; the Dodge Challenger Demon 170 is routinely trading for just north of $160,000. Sure, that’s above the car’s typical MSRP. It is also, however, half the cost that this Renton, Washington dealership wants for theirs. Furthermore, the Classic.com graph seems to be showing a very slow but steady decline and reports the highest sale price to date is $275,000. To call this dealership’s $322,000 asking price “optimistic” would be a bit of an understatement.
There’s a chance this is a dealership owner’s “I don’t want to sell it, so this is the price” markup. It’d be interesting to know if they’ve received any offers on the car to date. Overall, though, we must bring this downright absurd asking price to light.
