Keeping the Hellcat V8 alive for just a little while longer, Stellantis announces that the Durango SRT will have another model year

In the midst of the world announcing full EV conversions, gasoline and diesel engines being cut from production and states banning the sale of new internal combustion engines, Stellantis offers us gasoline engine lovers a life line: the Dodge Durango SRT with the Hellcat V8 is back for another model year. This time, it will come in four extra colors in addition to the regular ones like Night Moves, Frostbite, Red Oxide and Triple Nickle.

Not too long ago, Stellantis told the world that their Dodge brand was only going to sell four models: the Charger, Challenger, Hornet and the Durango. Soon after, Stellantis told us all that the Hellcat V8 was soon being phased out of production so the company can focus on EVs. Along with the Durango SRT Hellcat, Stellantis is planning on making Final Call editions for both the Challenger and the Charger as a send off to the V8 that brought Dodge into the limelight.

Stellantis mentioned that the Durango SRT with the Hellcat engine was meant to be a “one year wonder,” but after seeing how well it was received, they decided to bring it back for another year. Perhaps it’s strategic, as it’s the last time aside from the Final Call editions that people can get their hands on the Hellcat. Because it’s the Hellcat everyone knows and loves, the figures are the same — 710 horsepower and 645 lb-ft of torque. For a car that weighs 5,710 lbs, it makes for a 0-60 mph of 3.5 seconds.

Interior color schemes are also more abundant, with customers being able to choose between black on lack/Light Frost, black/Radar Red, black/Vitra Gray, black/Ebony Red, and black/Demonic Red. The Citadel, SRT 392 and SRT Hellcat models will still come with three rows of seating, with the second being captain’s chairs. To make this final model year even more fun, Stellantis says the 2023 Durango SRT Hellcat will come with a handful of interior easter eggs.

For instance, the animation on the infotainment system is a “smoke show” animation, showing the Durango performing a burnout. Then, the mode persona is shown to be wearing a racing helmet, and a specific “Serpentine” font is shown throughout the system.

Being track oriented, Stellantis says that the tarmac hungry SUV will give drivers more control. The Race Mode feature will allow drivers a lot more control over performance features, like being able to adjust the RPMs for launch control and the shift light.
