Easy 8’s At The Drag Strip For This Crazy Fast Durango Hellcat

A big ole SUV shouldn’t move this fast. But this modified Durango Hellcat is in the 8’s.
We like speed here at DodgeForum. Naturally, we like anything powered by a Hellcat motor. This Durango Hellcat is is one of those things, and we found it blasting down the drag strip thanks to AutoEvolution.
Inthe video, the owner of this big blue machine doesn’t hint at what’s been done, nor do we get a peek under the hood. But as the Durango Hellcat pulls up to the tree, we can hear onlookers say “you can smell that ethanol!” And we can see there’s a full drag race slick setup.

And wow is this thing moving. So under hood we known there’s some hardware. From the sound, we can tell the supercharger is gone, and turbos are now part of the game plan. Fender exit exhausts seem to confirm this. With all of that work just to go turbo, it wouldn’t be a surprise if some other internal engine parts are upgraded for the added boost.
The driver of the Durango Hellcat speaks of taking a record. That currently sits at an 8.4 second run, completed in 2023. And there’s quite a lot of confidence that the record will fall. At the lights, this Durango crossed at 8.649 seconds doing 164.4 miles per hour. According to DodgeGarage, the record run is held by Johnny Caputo. A quick look at the ET and trap speeds show there’s hardly anything in it. Less than 0.2 seconds between ET times. And less than a mile per hour trap speed. That’s a race that is won or lost before even tripping the 60ft marker.

Caputo’s ride is similar to the way this Durango is set up. Two turbos instead of supercharged, but with a custom 420 cubic inch HEMI engine. Power is said to be 1,750 horsepower. That checks out with the ET times and how heavy the Durnago is.
For our enthusiastic driver in the blue Durango, it is honestly a solid effort. You can tell by the coats and jackets that it’s a cold day to be at the track. It should be close to ideal conditions. Maybe soon we’ll see the record fall.
