FCA Issues Recall For 2011-2013 Durango/Cherokee
More than 500k Durango and Cherokee models are under recall for fuel pump relay issue that can lead to stalls and no-starts.
Fiat-Chrysler America is issuing a recall on 528,594 2011-2013 Dodge Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee models. It seems that the faulty installation of Fuel Pump Relays leads to fuel delivery issues. According to the press release, affected customers will be contacted with info on getting repairs. This is not the first time these vehicles have been recalled for electrical issues. In 2015, a similar recall was made for faulty fuel pump relay connections.
The recall affects all trim levels, including those with both V6 and V8 engines. Additionally, owners who have run into these issues and had them repaired external of the FCA networks are entitled to financial reimbursement. However, FCA requires receipts of the repairs to issue a refund.
According to Consumer Reports, NHTSA documents indicate that drivers might experience an extended engine crank time or require multiple attempts to start the engine. Though this isn’t a significant safety concern, it still can be a massive inconvenience. FCA reports that there are no known accidents or injuries due to this fault at this time. Owners can use online look-up tools at FCA and from the government to see whether their specific vehicle is involved with this recall. To do so, input your vehicle’s VIN for instant notification.
According to The Detroit Free Press, FCA thinks the faulty parts may have been a result of a previous recall on the same vehicles. The official release says feedback from FCA dealers led to an FCA investigation that discovered silicon deposits on the contact points of specific fuel pump relays might interrupt electrical current and prevent engine start-up or contribute to stall. Though FCA has not officially released the steps taken to repair the issue, they seem to have a repair process ready to go.
So, if you happen to own a 2011, 2012, or 2013 Dodge Durango or Jeep Grand Cherokee of any trim level, be sure to enter your VIN on a recall search engine to see if your vehicle is affected. We wouldn’t want you getting stranded out in the cold or on a holiday road trip during the busiest season of the year.
