Gorgeous 1953 Dodge Power Wagon Restomod Could Fetch a Half-Mil at Auction
Restomods don’t get any sweeter than this amazingly well-crafted yet high-dollar 1953 Dodge Power Wagon.
In recent years, we’ve seen restomods grow not only in terms of quality and execution, but also, pricing. These days, only a few, select, super wealthy folks can go out and buy the best that the restomod market has to offer, and we aren’t just talking about classic muscle cars or exotics – but rather, even vintage trucks and SUVs are being treated to the finest in terms of pretty much everything from cosmetics to mechanicals. Look no further than this amazing 1953 Dodge Power Wagon that’s set to be auctioned off Mecum’s upcoming Indianapolis sale for proof of that concept, as it touts a pretty hefty estimate ahead of that May 17 event.
In fact, Mecum has set the auction estimate for the 1953 Dodge Power Wagon at a whopping $350k-$450k, which is a rather insane amount of money for a vintage pickup of any kind. Of course, this isn’t just any old ordinary vintage pickup, but rather, a fully blown custom build that leaves no detail spared, starting with the fact that it’s a Crew Cab – something Dodge didn’t offer from the factory. Otherwise, one would be hard-pressed to tell that this wasn’t the original configuration, save for a handful of modern features.
The bodywork retains it vintage charm with red paint and black accents, but those are also complimented by an old school fabric slider top, a custom wood bed, and a big tell – massive 39-inch BFGoodrich KM3 all-terrain tires wrapped around custom G/T wheels finished in a gold hue, topped off with a Warn 16,500 pound winch up front. It’s certainly an attractive package, but as one might have guessed, this Dodge Power Wagon build goes far more than skin deep, as we can see from the finely finished black leather interior and its Vintage Air HVAC system.
Underneath the hood, one will find a 2.8L Cummins four-cylinder diesel engine, in fact, which is mated to a Tremec TR-4050 5-speed manual transmission for a nice combination of power and reliability, all while offering actual towing and hauling capability, if one is seeking to do such a thing with their half-million dollar restomod. It sends power to the rear wheels via a 241D transfer case, too.
From there, the builder of this gorgeous Dodge Power Wagon added Warn axle hubs, Bilstein shocks, and Wilwood brakes to complete the mechanical upgrades, which we imagine make this old pickup drive and ride like a brand new one. Such is the appeal of restomods in general, and this one is sure to turn more than a few heads when it crosses the block – though unfortunately, one will have to have a pretty substantial bank account balance to bring it home, most likely.
