Here’s Why the Durango SRT Hellcat Will Have Super-short Run

You’ll have to act fast if you’re hoping to get ahold of a new Durango SRT HellcatDodge is only making them for six months.
As exciting as all of that is, Dodge won’t be making the Durango SRT Hellcat for very long. The company says that the production run for the SUV will span just six months, but clarified by saying that the limit is only on the timeline and not on how many Durangos are built during that time.
Tim Kuniskis, head of Dodge, told Muscle Cars & Trucks that the short production run is due to production gaps from the COVID-19 shutdown and other logistical issues with running the plant. It could also be due to the fact that a new generation of the Durango is expected in the somewhat near future. Kuniskis added that installing a Hellcat motor in a Durango after the 2022 model year will put the vehicle at odds with tightening vehicle emissions standards.

Kuniskis said that no one knows how many of the Hellcat-packing SUVs will actually be made at the company’s Jefferson North factory, as it will depend on customer demand. He did say that he expects fewer than 2,000 will be made.

If you’re hoping to put one in your driveway, you’ll have to move fast. Dodge says it will begin taking orders for the Durango SRT Hellcat later this year, with production starting early in 2021. Deliveries won’t be far behind. We don’t have detailed pricing information yet, but an educated guess would put the starting price somewhere near $90,000.
