Jay Leno’s Wild Ride in the “Hemi Under Glass” Drag Car

Jay Leno Hemi Under Glass Rollover

Things don’t go quite as planned when Jay Leno meets up with long-time idol Bob Riggle in the video below. Bob is the driver of the “Hemi Under Glass” Plymouth Barracuda. With a 2,500-horsepower supercharged Hemi V8 mounted in the rear, the engine is visible through the back window, and thus the simple, but effective name was born.

The intention was to make the Hemi Under Glass into a genuine drag racer, but changing the engine’s location simply meant that it would pull amazing wheel-stands. That doesn’t translate well into speed, but it does make for a great showcase car, and that’s what Jay Leno is about to experience. But he gets more than just a wheel stand.

Coming down from a wheel-stand run, the car hits a bump in the pavement that keeps it from slowing down. In order to avoid hitting a wall, Riggle tries to turn the car, and that’s when things go wrong. The car pitches to one side, and next thing you know, it starts to roll over, and Jay and Bob get tossed around a bit. Fortunately, they are both OK; however, the car didn’t fare so well. What a ride!
