McLaren-tuned 2006 Dodge Viper is Too Rare Be in the Wild

One of one, 615-horsepower McLaren Dodge Viper is one of the rarest modern American supercars.

Back in 2006, American Specialty Cars (ASC) brought a modified Dodge Viper SRT10 to the Detroit Auto Show with the intention of marketing the upgraded Mopar supercar. Unfortunately, ASC went out of business shortly after introducing the modified Viper, so only one example was built, but that one-off, McLaren-tuned Dodge supercar is on sale right now for a fraction of the initial price.

When American Specialty Cars was developing their modified 2006 Dodge Viper, they turned to the folks at McLaren for tuning help. The British racing experts added a unique individual port throttle body system with some old school-looking trumpeted intakes poking up through the custom carbon fiber hood. With some changes to the engine computer, this intake system lifts the output of the Viper V10 from 510 horsepower to 615 horsepower.

Next, the ASC-prepared Dodge Viper has a carbon fiber hood, roof, trunk lid, rockers, rear fascia and front fascia, quad-tipped exhaust outlets, a lowered suspension setup and custom 19-inch wheels. The package was finished with a unique Arctic White paint scheme with blue and orange accents.

All said and done, this package cut 85 pounds from the “normal” Viper while also adding 105 horsepower, so in addition to being rare, this McLaren-tuned Dodge should offer significantly better performance than a stock 2006 car.

Second Time Around

According to Motor Authority, this 2006 Dodge Viper ASC Diamondback was sold online back in 2009, at which point the car had 55 miles on the odometer and a price tag of $295,000. This time, the odometer reads 74 miles and the price tag is the same. While $295,000 might seem like a whole lot of money for a tuned 2006 Viper with a carbon fiber body, keep in mind that when ASC built this car, it reportedly cost them $750,000.

Perhaps the ridiculous build cost was why the company went out of business before they had a chance to market this unique Viper, but they built one and you can buy it right now from California exotic car dealer American Supercars.

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
