Rare 1968 Dodge Charger

Being one of only 259 made with a 383 Magnum and 4-speed manual, calling this classic Charger rare would be an understatement.

When it comes to precious barn finds, it’s hard to find a more classic example than this. Instagrammer/Mopar enthusiast Mopars5150 made a chance discovery in Albuquerque, New Mexico when he found this wholly-original, Sublime Green 1968 Dodge Charger that is in surprisingly good shape.

What’s better? According to the Instagrammer, the only reason this beautiful bruiser was left in storage for 17 years was because it needed a new fuel pump. Seriously.

Like most cases, the car fell victim to the original owner’s more pressing matters in life. Luckily, the person had the wherewithal to keep the Charger sheltered and away from the elements, mostly. A quick glance at a the production tag shows this car is actually rare for another reason besides the fantastic condition it is in for being 52 years old.

Well she’s pretty dusty 🤣 but shes well worth the effort 👍👍Our guys are at it for a 2and day in a row pulling home a 68 Charger and a 4 speed to boot! They really got after it today and got her out of hibernation 🤩👍 #saveaclassic #itsallaboutthechase . Now what’s all the fuss about on this car? Well first of all It’s a numbers matching 383 4 speed (motor & Trans) with fender tag (gonna look for build sheet). Great color combo as well but most of all its 1 of 259 383 4 speed 4 barrel H code cars built in 68. She she is quite rare and with all her numbers matching Shes quite the find! Good job @tonysclassicfinds & @challengerrob for bringing this girl home 😍👍 . . #mopars5150_bestchases . . #68charger #1968charger #moparornocar #mopar #charger #barnfind #findingclassiccars #chasingclassiccars #classicamericancars #cars

It was optioned with the 6.3-liter 383 Magnum V8 and a 4-speed manual transmission. This is an unusual pairing, as it seems most people opted for the 3-speed Torqueflite automatic. The 426 cubic-inch Hemi motor was option as well, along with a Hurst-adorned 4-speed manual transmission. Hemi sales weren’t really making the cut at the time, and made up less than 500 of the 17,000 R/T Chargers in the wild. This is neither an R/T nor does it have a Hemi, and as a result, it is one of only 259 ever built.

Since it has a Magnum, it’s got a 4-barrel carburetor and hefty rear diff, capable of 330 horsepower and 460 lbs.-ft of torque.

Listen to it roar to life below.

While not the exception to the rule, this find is definitely not what you typically expect with a car holed up somewhere for decades. What do you all think of this beautiful, leafy Charger? Would you consider buying it? Let us know in the forums.
