World’s quickest Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat is running consistent 9.0s in the quarter mile.
This week’s Track Time Tuesday comes to us from the Omega Hellcat YouTube channel and it features B5 Blue Dodge Charger campaigned by the family team of Jose and Ruben (they would prefer that I not use their last name). This car previously set the quarter mile record for the supercharged sedan last year with a 9.04, but since then, they have whittled that number down to a 9.02. More importantly, they are running consistent 9.0 elapsed times while striving to be the first 8-second Hellcat Charger.
Omega Details
The car that Jose and Ruben call the Omega Hellcat was built by Mike at EMP New York and it isn’t as heavily-modified as you might expect. The engine has been upgraded with a 2.65 upper pulley, a 10% lower pulley, ID1300 fuel injectors, a Fore fuel system, a Nitrous Express plate kit with 200-horsepower nozzles and a cat-less midpipe exhaust system, all of which is brought together by an E85 tune from Curt Dusterhoff Tuning.
To handle all of the extra power, this Charger has a set of 1,400-horsepower axles from the Driveshaft Shop and a set of 315/50/17 Mickey Thompson ET Street R drag radials put the power to the ground.
The only other modifications including the removal of the rear seat and passenger seat, along with the skinny front wheels and the lightweight rear wheels. However, this Charger still has the factory Brembo brakes, the stock transmission and all of the stock internal engine parts, and it is knocking on the door of the eight-second range.
Pair of 9.0 Blasts
In the video above, the Omega Hellcat sets the Charger record with a 9.02 and in the video below, we watch the B5 beast run a 9.03. During the course of the day when these two passes were made, Jose piloted the car to five runs in the 9.0-range, including an .04, an .05 and an .08.
It should be noted that during these runs, the density altitude was well into the positive range. In many cases, record-setting numbers are run in heavy negative density altitude, but the 9.02 was run around 700 DA. Those familiar with the impact of air quality on these cars knows that in negative DA, these 9.0 runs are likely into the 8s, but Jose and Ruben will continue shooting for 8s through the spring and summer in what will almost always be positive density altitude.
In the meantime, crank up your speakers and enjoy these two videos of the world’s quickest Hellcat Charger resetting the quarter mile record.
"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.
"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.
"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.
"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.
"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.
