2001 Plymouth Neon Final Plymouth 68 Miles Bring A Trailer

Neon has only 68 original miles, features a five-speed manual transmission, and, oh yeah, it’s the last Plymouth that was ever made.

Let’s get straight to it and address the elephant in the room. It’s pretty hard to be excited about a Neon. Especially when it isn’t even an SRT-4. We’re sorry if you’re a Neon enthusiast, but sometimes the truth hurts. This one, though, is a bit of an exception. The Neon is a bit of an oddity in that it came badged as both Plymouth and Dodge. What makes this particular Plymouth Neon special is that it is all original, has only 68 miles on it, and is still technically brand new as it’s never been registered. Perhaps the most outstanding bit, though, is that it was the last Plymouth ever made. Period. That’s it. This is the one.

It’s currently for sale on Bring A Trailer. However, if you’re looking for a cheap Neon for daily commuting, you’ll want to look elsewhere. At the time of writing, this Neon still has five days of auction time left, and it’s already past the $15,000 mark. For reference, NADA Guides puts the high retail value of a 2001 Plymouth Neon at $2,500.

Though, they’re certainly not factoring in the rarity and historical factors of this one. We won’t at all be surprised to see it surpass $20,000. That being said, while there’s an extremely niche group of people who are both interested in owning this thing and capable of affording it, we can still appreciate what a remarkable time capsule it is. Let’s take a look.

Last Plymouth Ever Made Neon 2001 Interior Leather

Frozen in time

We’ll admit that we were a bit surprised to see a leather interior. Setting that aside, it’s pure insanity to look inside this thing. While it is very obviously interior design work from a bygone era, something about it really doesn’t seem all that outdated.

The interior features full Dark Slate Grey leather upholstery, including the steering wheel. The wood-trimmed stereo has a CD changer and a cassette deck. Looking back, it even seems a bit odd that a car as new as 2001 came with a cassette deck, but we digress.

You’ll also find all power windows, a power sunroof, cruise control, and side-impact airbags among the interior commodities.

Bring A Trailer Final Plymouth Neon Rear Suspension

As you’d expect, all the bolts and under-car components look like they rolled off the assembly line yesterday. The Bright Silver paint finish is still, well, bright silver. It has optional 15-inch alloy wheels, too.

Under the hood, you’ll find a virtually untouched 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder pumping out a modest 132 horsepower and 130 pound-feet of torque. It’s certainly no drag weapon, but it will get you where you need to be.  It had an oil change in 2017 and is probably due for another, though certainly not for mileage.

Neon paperwork with 68 miles original Bring A Trailer auction no reserve

All Neon jokes aside, this thing really is astounding. It comes loaded with all sorts of original dealer paperwork and manuals. It even has a certificate declaring that it’s the last Plymouth ever built.  The certificate also shows the date and location of the first Plymouth ever built. We never thought we’d see a Neon evoke such emotion.

We’ll definitely be watching to keep an eye on the final sale price of this thing. We do wonder, though, what the winner intends to do with it. It’ll likely wind up in a private collection not to be seen until it one day sells again. Regardless, it’s pretty cool to see such a bizarre piece of Plymouth history.
