New England Motor Press Association has crowned the ‘North Edition’ for its winter-crucial 4×4 transfer case & e-locking rear axle upgrades.

In the Eastern half of the US, winters are harsh and unforgivable. Thousands of cars and trucks fall victim to the obstacles drivers hurl at drivers every year. This year, however, Fiat Chrysler Automobile (FCA) whipped up the formula for the 2019 Ram 1500 North Edition in effort to change that. The new and improved version of FCA’s bread winning truck was so impressive, the New England Motor Press Association (NEMPA) dubbed it the ‘Official Winter Truck of New England.’

“The 2019 Ram rides like a car, works like a truck and shows winter who is boss,” said John Paul, President of NEMPA.

With winter ready add-ons such as a 4×4 transfer case with 4×4 auto, high and low settings, engine block heater, and electric locking rear axle, it’s easy to see how NEMPA’s critical eyes were pleased. Other upgrades suited for harsh winter conditions include but are not limited to heated seats and steering wheel, all-weather floor mats, severe snow service-rated Falken tires, and FCA’s all new e-Torque system. All of which comes off the lot with the North Edition truck.

“The 2019 Ram 1500 incorporates a long list of new technologies to help drivers stay informed and in control during rough weather, including automatic emergency braking and real-time weather maps on the Uconnect 12-inch touch screen,” said Reid Bigland, Head of Ram. “The ‘Official Winter Truck of New England’ award from NEMPA backs out title of America’s most awarded pickup, and represents solid recognition of our efforts in delivering the industry’s benchmark for durability, technology, efficiency and luxury.”

When the full-sized truck isn’t keeping winter weather on its toes, it’s impressing critics everywhere with what’s kept in mind for pick-up truck enthusiasts. Despite it being a large truck and filled to the brim with fancy bells and whistles, the overall weight of this year’s model was reduced by 225 pounds.

This was achieved by changing the metal used for the frame – it decreases weight, while increasing stiffness and capability. For instance, the 2019 Ram will be able to tow a jaw-dropping 12,750 pounds and haul 2,300 pound of payload.

FCA is no stranger to taking home trophies in the Ram’s name. The Ram is still the most powerful truck, with the Cummins Turbo Diesel churning 1,000 lb.-ft of torque. At the same time, the Ram has earned awards and recognition as Most Luxurious, Most Interior Space, as well as the highest owner loyalty of any half-ton pickup.
