Ram TRX Runs a 10.33 Quarter-Mile with Basic Upgrades

Ram 1500 TRX is full weight, running on the factory off-road tires, and it is nearly in the 9s.

Last month, Billy Weber became the first owner of a 2021 Ram 1500 TRX to run a 10-second quarter mile, running a 10.991 at 126.77 miles per hour. Since then, a few other TRX owners have run in the mid-10s, but this past weekend, Weber and his black half-ton Ram stormed down the track with a time of 10.33. That comfortably eclipses the previous TRX quarter mile record, but more importantly, he ran that 10.33 in 80-degree temperatures with a density altitude of 1,400 feet.

When you take into account the fact that most quarter mile records are run with a negative density altitude, it is clear that in better conditions, Weber and his Ram TRX could get very close to the 9-second range with the current setup. Mind you, this is in a full weight truck with the factory off-road tires still in place, and with some basic upgrades, it will beat just about anything on the street.

Here is a look at what Weber did to get his Ram 1500 TRX into the 10.30s.

Billy Weber’s Ram TRX

As you can see in the images here, Weber’s Ram 1500 TRX looks stock from the outside. It is still riding on the factory wheels wrapped in off-road-ready rubber and the only weight that has been removed was the spare tire while at the track. Weber points out that he weighs around 300 pounds, so even without the spare, his truck is as heavy as most others with smaller drivers.

If you were to look under the hood of this TRX, it doesn’t look far from stock, either. It is running the factory IHI supercharger with a ported snout and 108-millimeter throttle body from Kong Performance, a custom cold air intake, a 2.65-inch Griptec upper pulley and a 10 percent lower pulley. These items add boost and improve air intake flow, leading to the need for more fuel, which comes in the way of ID1700 fuel injectors. The work was performed by Labworx Development and is tuned to run on E85 by Meesh_Tuned.

When Weber dyno tested his truck prior to making his first 10-second run (shown above), he was running slightly smaller injectors and methanol injection with the added boost and E85 tune, leading to 865 rear wheel horsepower.

Since then, he removed the methanol injection and swapped to the 1700 CC injectors, but more importantly, he added a nitrous oxide system with a 100-horsepower shot.

Other than those items, this Ram 1500 TRX is stock, yet it will make short work of almost any stock sports car in the world.

Running Low 10s

This past weekend, Weber took his TRX to Cecil County Dragway, where he was greeted by 80-degree temperatures and a DA of around 1,400 feet. Cecil is good for sub-zero DA once it gets cooler out, but this weekend, the conditions weren’t so great. Fortunately, that didn’t stop Weber from resetting the TRX quarter mile record.

In the video below from the Labworx Development YouTube channel, you can watch Weber’s Ram 1500 run the 10.33. On this pass, he had a 1.641 60-foot time and an eighth mile time of 6.692 at 108.54 miles per hour.

On the big end, he stopped the timers at 10.33 with a speed of 133.82 miles per hour.

Weber has plans to make a hard push for the 9-second range, so there is a good chance that the first Ram 1500 TRX in the 10s will also be the first in the 9s. For now, it is the quickest TRX in the world.

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
