Ram TRX Tyrant vs Tesla Cybertruck Dual-Motor

The all-electric dual-motor Tesla Cybertruck may beat a stock Ram TRX in the quarter-mile, but it’s no match for this upgraded version.

Gone but certainly not forgotten, the Ram TRX still holds a special place in the hearts of those of us who see the supercharged, V8-powered model as the perfect pickup. The Ram TRX has effectively been replaced by the twin-turbocharged Hurricane I-6 powered RHO, but to us, there’s just no way it can measure up under the hood – no matter how much horsepower the aftermarket can extract from it. The same goes for the silent but deadly Tesla Cybertruck, but as this recent video from The Fast Lane Truck proves, there is a way to make the Ram TRX quicker than its EV counterpart.

TFLT’s Cybertruck is a dual-motor variant, meaning that it makes 600 total horsepower, enabling it to do 0-60 in 3.9 seconds and complete the quarter-mile in around 12.4 clicks. It isn’t the tri-motor Cyberbeast, but it’s quick enough to take down a stock Ram TRX at the drag strip, as we can see in this clip. However, TFLT also has something special up its sleeve – a Ram TRX Tyrant, which is a tuned example of the pickup from the folks at Granger Motors.

While the stock supercharged 6.2-liter V8 in the TRX is rated to produce 702 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque from the factory, this revised version makes 787 horsepower and 702 pound-feet, thanks to a variety of upgrades. Those include a 3.17-inch supercharger pulley, a 180 Degree thermostat, colder range spark plugs, high flow ID1050 Injectors, and an HPTuners tuner loaded with an Nth Moto calibration.

According to Granger, those upgrades shave nearly a second off the quarter-mile time of a stock Ram TRX, helping it complete that task in 11.84 seconds – plus, it comes with a three-year, 36,000-mile extended warranty, to boot. Even better, as we can see here, the Ram TRX Tyrant upgrade – which costs $8,995 – also makes the good old fashioned V8-powered pickup quicker than a dual-motor Cybertruck, too.

In the first race, the Tyrant gets a bit of a jump but rockets out to an impressive lead, regardless, and winds up handily beating the EV by the time both cross the finish line. The Cybertruck managed a 12.67-second pass, though we aren’t told what the Tyrant ran compared to its stock counterpart’s 13.07-second result. Regardless, the two trucks line up for a second go, and the results are precisely the same with a more even launch – the Ram TRX Tyrant beats the Cybertruck by a healthy margin, making this particular upgrade seemingly worth the cost.
