Rare 1967 Coronet R/T Four-Speed HEMI To Be Auctioned Off
Car features a HEMI decklid emblem on the engine and 426 Hemi callout tags on the front fenders.
A well-preserved HEMI is enough to catch anybody’s attention. However, a 1967 Elephant Coronet R/T can steal the spotlight away from even the most exotic rides on the road. The car is a true classic, and the example we have here is one of only 32 units that were ever produced. A rare delight, this 1967 Elephant Coronet R/T will be available for auction next month in Kissimmee, Florida.
The R/T package in 1967 was exclusive to the Coronet and was offered in two formats; convertible and hardtop. The example here pairs two of the most enduring features of the sixties Mopar- the iconic styling language and a powerful HEMI engine.
This 1967 Coronet sports a vibrant red paint job, and ditches the vinyl roof. The Coronet also flaunts painted-and-chromed crisp lines. At the front, we find cast-metal R/T emblems on the grille. Wheel-well trim, bright rocker molding, and cast rear decklid insert are also part of the ensemble.
The car features a HEMI decklid emblem on the engine and 426 Hemi callout tags on the front fenders. Factory-width redline tires and 5-spoke Magnum 500 road wheels complete the car’s iconic look. Inside the cabin, we find an exclusive 150 MPH speedometer, quality bucket seats, pedal dress-ups, a radio, and a chrome-ribbed center console with a storage area and side illumination.
Under the hood sits the original 426 HEMI motor with matching numbers. Apart from that, the car features a factory dual exhaust system, round chrome air cleaner, 10.25:1 compression, iron hemispherical cylinder heads, and dual-inline 4-barrel carburetors, which are backed by the Coronet’s heavy-duty A833 4-speed manual transmission.
The car also features an inland shifter to go with the transmission.
Furthermore, it gets front power disc brakes and a 3.54:1 ratio 9.75-inch Sure Grip Dana 60 axle. This car was developed to help Dodge release the R/T (Road/Track) model that could serve as the poster child for the brand’s high-quality and high-performance cars. This Dodge R/T model was released after Chrysler Hemi’s first release a year earlier in 1966.
The example here is one of the only 32 models in existence and benefited from the latest restoration in 2019. The car represents the pinnacle of design and performance of HEMI cars from back in the day. Old Mopars today easily hit seven-figure price tags at auctions.
