This particular Dodge Viper GTS-R is number 80 of 100 produced to celebrate the brand’s FIA GTS championship win in 1997.

The Dodge Viper is a special machine in its own regard, a vehicle that came to life against all odds after originally debuting as a wildly popular concept. The Viper went on to enjoy a rather long lifespan for such a specialized vehicle, and even though it hasn’t quite become the coveted collectible most expected at this point, it certainly gets plenty of love from enthusiasts who appreciate a good V10-powered sports car. However, this super-rare 1998 Dodge Viper GTS-R figures to garner a pretty penny when it crosses the auction block for a number of good reasons.

This particular Dodge Viper GTS-R is up for grabs at Premier Auction Group as number 80 of just 100 built, for starters, each a homologation special designed to pay tribute to the company’s 1997 FIA GT2 Championship-winning race car, which took home both the team and driver titless that year. It’s finished in the classic color combination of white with blue racing stripes, and has been fitted with the GT2 Aero Package, which adds dive planes in the front bumper, side sills, and a rear spoiler, coupled with a side-exit exhaust system, BBS wheels, and GTS-R badging.

Riding on a backbone tubular space frame with a separate cowl structure, the Dodge Viper GTS-R is certainly designed for track use, and in this case, it’s motivated by the familiar naturally-aspirated 8.0-liter V10 pumping out 465 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque. Mated to a six-speed manual transmission, that combination drives the rear wheels, as is the case with its peers.

Meanwhile, the occupant is awash in a black and blue interior that comes with an extra shift boot and pedal covers. One will also find an Oreca five-point racing harness, plus a serialized dash plaque inside proclaiming which of the 100 units each represents.

With just 10,750 miles showing on the odometer, this very special – and very rare – Dodge Viper GTS-R is certain to attract its fair share of interest at auction, and it also comes with an array of cool stuff such as original promotional materials for the car, plus autographed photos. As one might imagine, it also touts an accident-free history and a clean CarFax for a little extra peace of mind, too.
