REVIEW: Why Your Dodge Needs Fuel Additives!

Gumout flew forum members to Ohio to show how their fuel additive works in certified lab testing. The results were not just impressive, they were visible.

Over the years, we have asked countless fuel additive companies to prove that their product actually improves the performance of a vehicle. Gumout surprised us by being the first company to respond with an emphatic, “Yes!” Our editorial team and several forum members from DodgeForum and Diesel Truck Resource were flown out to a special testing laboratory at the Transportation Research Center (TRC) in East Liberty, Ohio to witness their latest products in action. Like most of us, DodgeForum user Jkeaton shared that leading up to the trip he “was always one of those guys who did not believe in ‘snake oil’ fuel or oil additives.” Could Gumout change our opinions?

On our way to the testing facility, we stopped at a random Autozone and purchased a bottle of Gumout One-N-Done — we even walked into the store and made sure it was an off-the-shelf bottle.

Gumout had purchased a Hyundai Sonata from a local used-car dealership to show us typical deposit buildup on a vehicle driven 80,000 miles. They would then show us the inside of the engine, reassemble it, fill the fuel tank with Gumout One-N-Done Complete Fuel System Cleaner treatment, drive the car in a test cycle overnight to burn through a whole tank of fuel in accordance with the American Section for Testing Materials’ (ASTM) industry-standard testing procedures, pull the car apart once again, and let us see the results.

We took measurements of the carbon deposits before the fuel treatment and didn’t expect to see a visible difference in the “before and after.” However, the images we captured from the event speak for themselves.

“The results were immediately visible when the head was removed,” noted Jkeaton. “You could visually see where the carbon had started to be cleaned off the top of the pistons. All the tests were repeated again and the results are unbelievable. The stuff actually worked in removing carbon build up. This was only after one tank of gas. The Polyetheramine, or P.E.A. in the One-N-Done keeps working even after one tank (10,000 miles between treatments), so I know it will keep working.”

Gumout had made a believer out of each person in attendance, and forum member Madhat from Diesel Truck Resource performed a controlled test of his own after the trip.

“Once I returned home, I used One-N-Done on my wife’s truck, a 2008 Dodge Mega with the 5.7 Hemi,” said Madhat in a post on Diesel Truck Resource. “It’s been pretty well taken care of (considering my OL’s right foot is heavier than mine and she likes to make the pipes sing), and there is about 150k on the clock. After a few days, I noticed a difference in overall performance and a slight MPG gain. The engine was also running noticeably smoother. The catch on this- I didn’t tell her that I was putting it in, and she mentioned to me that her truck was running better and wanted to know if I had done anything to it… Not just wishful thinking!”
