Rust Bucket Barn Find ’68 Charger Makes $38K on eBay!
Dragged out of a barn and put on auction, this rust bucket runner was an eBay hit.
This rust bucket ’68 Dodge Charger has just made $37,900 on eBay! Auctioned by chillman1173, the images on the site reveal that it is rather rotten and rusted through in several key areas. Yet it still achieved something of a landmark sale…
Despite its dire condition, the car is well documented. Although it has a ’69 grille and fenders as regular readers may already have picked up, this is a ’68 car. It was repaired that way after a 1970 accident. As such, this Charger has lost its original round position lights on the front fenders in favor of the ’69 model’s square lights. But the rear position lamps remain round. Because those trivial details never mattered to the owner at the time.
A little too Long in the Elements
I also appears that while the car was found indoors, it spent too much time out in the elements. Typical signs of neglect include the vinyl top that’s been parched off the car. And the upholstery shows all the signs of a touch too much UV-rich sunlight over the decades.
Chillman1173 was clearly intent to reveal all the car’s pitfalls though. It’s rusted through in several areas — the side paneling and underbody in particular are already severely rotten. And there are several other clear chassis issues that will need attention too.
