3,336-Horsepower Dodge Ram

Insane diesel Dodge Ram running more than 180 PSI of boost nearly breaks free of the dyno during record breaking 3,336-horsepower pull.

Records are made to be broken. However, some records seem so unbelievable that you would think they would last forever. In early June at the Ultimate Callout Challenge (UCC) in Indianapolis, Indiana one of those unbelievable records were broken. Actually, it was more than just broken, the record was absolutely obliterated. The record in question is the most power that a diesel truck ever put down at a UCC event. The figure to beat was a daunting 2,929 horsepower. The truck owned by Justin Zeigler put down a ridiculous 3,336-horsepower. That is nearly 15 percent more than the previous record. Wow.

This week’s “Wicked Wednesday” is all about this record breaking 3,336-horsepower diesel Dodge Ram pickup truck. It was built by Zeigler Diesel Performance, and it put on one hell of a show at UCC. And if you are saying that a diesel is more about torque than horsepower, you are right. The Zeigler truck also cranked out a stump pulling 3,642 pound-feet of torque. That was just 35 pound-feet shy of the record. The folks at 1320video were there to capture all the action and posted a video of highlights including the record-breaking dyno pull on their YouTube channel. And just for good measure the truck makes a 4-second eighth mile pass while another Zeigler Ram truck pulls the sled 291 feet down the track.

Power

So how do you get a Ram truck to make as much power as four and half Hellcats? Pop the hood of this wicked truck and you will see a beautiful D&J ENFORCER Deck Plate Long Block. This 6.7L Cummins is force fed via a compound turbo setup that is capable of an incredible 185 PSI of boost! Just seeing this thing, you would almost expect it to be powering a freight train, not a pickup truck. But here it is, and it sure makes the power.

Dyno

Zeigler elected to run his Ram truck dead last on the dyno. Everyone else already put up their best numbers and now it was his turn. Even without knowing the final figures, this dyno pull is something to watch. The rear brakes are on fire as the wheels spin on the rollers. The actual peak power run is maybe just two or three seconds. But you can see that when the engine is making maximum boost that it nearly breaks free of the retaining straps and rockets off the dyno itself. The 3,336-horsepower number is so incredible that the dyno operator jumps in the air in delight after seeing the results. If you think dyno numbers can be misleading, the truck did scoot down the eighth mile in 4.99 seconds at 148.51 mph. You need a lot of power to be that quick.

Ram Sled Pull

Zeigler brought another truck to the UCC party for sled pulling duty. And of course, it is another Dodge Ram. This is a 2002 Ram that still has the truck frame on it. Under the hood is an aluminum block diesel engine. This truck also uses a compound turbo setup, and it is good for in the neighborhood of 2,500 horsepower. Once hooked up to the sled it managed to pull it an impressive 291.47 feet. That performance combined with the dyno pull and drag race times gave the Zeigler Diesel team the overall win at UCC.

The video below shows these Dodge trucks dominating the UCC competition. But it also shows the setting of a new horsepower record that just might stand for a very long time. And if it ever is broken it very well could be Zeigler breaking his own record. In the meantime, we think you will be happy watching what these wicked Dodge trucks are capable of.
