‘You Can’t Park There’: Poor Dodge Challenger Destroyed by Train
A night filled with bad decisions resulted in this Dodge Challenger getting stuck on the train tracks, and ultimately annihilated.
Trains have been crossing the U.S. for a very, very long time now, long before automobiles and highways became a thing. Thus, one might assume that folks know how to safely navigate train tracks, and yet, that just simply isn’t the case. Rather, we continue to see people try and cross tracks when they shouldn’t, or just somehow wind up stuck on them at the worst possible time – resulting in some train-on-car carnage. Recently, that’s exactly what happened to one poor Dodge Challenger, too.
In this video from the YouTube channel Virtual Railfan, we get a great view of this particular incident, which occurred in Quincy, Illinois recently. The 27-year-old man was traveling along Wisman Lane around 1:30am, according to Quincy Police, when he made an ill-fated left turn that was a bit wide, apparently. As a result, the man and his Dodge Challenger wound up squarely on the train tracks, in a massive predicament.
Despite the man’s best efforts to free his Challenger from those tracks, he wound up getting stuck around 180 feet from the nearby intersection. In the video, we can see his frantic efforts to try and get the car back on the road – revving its engine to the redline, while his two passengers also got out and tried to push it, with little success. In the clip, we begin to hear a train horn and can see the barriers lowering behind the car, signaling impending doom.
That’s precisely what happened, as the train came barreling down the track, horn blazing, before it struck the rear of the Challenger and took it on a 300-foot ride down the tracks before it was able to come to a stop. The poor car is likely pretty smashed up after that incident, and we can already see the initial damage after that collision takes place in this clip.
Luckily, the man and his passengers were able to escape without any injuries, though his car is now likely a goner. However, this wasn’t just some innocent mishap, as it turns out – rather, the man was cited for driving under the influence, so it seems as if his transgressions were fueled by some sort of substance. In any event, his many bad decisions that night resulted the destruction of a pretty cool car, not to mention what is likely a pretty expensive cleanup.
