Blowing Fuses?
Hi there,
I'm new here and I'm really only on here for a few friends, but my friend has a '97 Dodge Avenger and we're having problems with the "room light" fuse under the radio fuse in the main fuse box (which is also kicking out his head unit.) Today we tried replacing the dome lights and the floor lights with new ones, however we realized that he bought the wrong ones and we were blowing through the fuse because the dome lights were 10W instead of the factory 8W bulbs. So we swapped them out for the original ones and then put in the original floor lamps. It worked for about ten seconds and then the fuse blew again. What is going on? I can't see why the bulbs he had in there originally would cause problems now. If you guys could help me out, that'd be great
Also, I was wondering where you get replacement exterior door handles. The auto parts stores are asking for $40 and my friend's not too confident with buying the $15 ones on eBay. Any suggestions?

Door handles are the same as the 95/99 eclipse ... Usually they can be found cheaper then the Avenger ones ...
For the fuse sounds like a short elsewhere, I'd check the headunit wiring since it's going out too

I agree with the short. Get the wiring behind the radio, especially if there was an aftermarket headunit installed. Don't just look, move the wires around and look.
Whatever was touched should be rechecked.

That's the thing, he had the aftermarket headunit installed last year and it's worked fine. But then this whole light thing knocked it out. Right now he's just running with the dome lights and hasn't had problems yet. I'll tell him to check the stereo for shorts. We're gonna try to upgrade the interior lights to LED units. Any tips on how to do this without blowing through another 3 bucks in fuses?
