97 AVENGER 4CYL 2.0- JERKING WHILE DRIVING
Ok, i have a 97 dodge avenger 2.0 4cylinder. My car does ok when it is cold, but after i have driven it for a while, 25 min or so, it starts jerking while im driving. It feels like its catching air or something. Its actually quit while driving on the interstate, which was scary, but it has also quit on me while idleing too. The car doesnt register hot. I have changed spark plugs and the fuel filter. It has 193,000 miles soits not in tip-top shape, but other than this problem it runs good. Please help me before i sink a bunch of money that i dont have. Anyone with any info on this... please help!!!
well i had simular simptoms before and one of the spark plug wires had a exposed spot on it and that was the problem, but now i know its not the wires this time, so i dont know what it is.
ok, its a auto transmission, rpms are dropping till it stalls and sometimes they drop, but it catches and doesnt quit, but it jerks like the gas stops pumping or something. Its not over heating its just when i have driven the car for a while. Like 20 min. or so.
Is that what happens when the fuel pump goes out? And what does the crank sensor do?

Heat is usually not a big factor for the fuel pump ...
The crank sensor tells the ignition when to fire ect .... They get heat intermittant ...

ok, the reason for the fuel pump question, is because its like the fuel cuts in & out. I will be pressing the gas and it will cut out like its getting nothing when it happens.
Without having the car here It's guessing ... BUT I've seen one fuel pump bad, and it was bad at all times ... I've seen DOZENS of CPS's bad ...Mostly intermittant and mostly die in heat of summer
