i have a question about these cars?
hi, i have a 1991 acura legend, that i am most likely swapping for a 1998 dodge avenger, it has less than 100,000 miles on it, my mom used to have one of these, and i loved it. when do the transmissions start to give out on these cars? and what problems usually occur after the 100,000 mile mark? thanks alot
You best bet is to take to your local shop and have them look over you vehicle to see what it needs. THE FIRST thing I would do is check if the recall has been preformed on your lower control are. I could write up a list of things to be changed on our cars at certain mileage intervals.
I have a 98 Avenger with 242K miles on it. I had to replace my 5 speed tranny at 159K miles becauseI failed to notice a leak that ran the tranny dry so it cooked itself [there was an engine leak at the same time and I didn't know that our cars run 30 weight oil in the tranny so I thought all that oil was engine oil, after I got the engine leak fixed the tranny was out of oil so I never noticed it leaking] I changed the timing belt when I repaired the oil leak and I have not had any prolems with the car since then. It does use a litle bit of oil but nothing that wouldn't be expected from a car with 242K miles on it. I do have a right front bearing making noise that needs to get replaced [I hit a curb] I get 27MPG city and usually get 34MPG highway [I got 36.6MPG on a trip throught the Blue Ridge Mountains a few years ago]
