HELP! Engine bad idle, keeps dying
I've been scouring the internet looking for someone who had the same probs: Initially my car started stalling out whenever I decelerated. The gas and brakes would go hard. It would start up after a few minutes and then 20 mins later stall out again on deceleration. I started using my left foot to brake and put the car into neutral when I had to stop... found that keeping the revs up would prevent the car from dying. Was running a bad map sensor code so replaced that, as well as did my tune up. Didn't help, getting the same code after replacing sensor 2x now and resetting codes. Now, I start the car and I can't even get the engine to stay on. It will rev itself up to 1400 for 5 secs then down to 0 rpms and die. Hoping someone had the same prob and found a fix sooner than me? Going on 2 mos w/o a car....even my mech can't figure out what's wrong...
Check your EGR valve, I had the exact same problem a few months back and my EGR valve was bad. I had other issues too, but thats what kept my car dying at idle.
Likely the Idle Air Control ... First I'd go buy some seafoam at the parts store and clean the intake ... Sometimes the IAC is just dirty/gunky and that will take care of it
Well, had my mech check on the egr valve and he said it was fine. We have the car now to where it will actually start up and run smooth for 10 secs, but then the map sensor code pops up and it dies. Everytime it gets cleared out the car is fine and then the code pops up again. I'll do the seafoam though and see if it helps.
