1996 Avenger 2.0 Litre Oil Pan Replacement
I just bought a 1996 dodge avenger and need to replace the oil pan casue it is rotten. Can somebody tell me if there is an easy way to do it or if I have to jack up the engine or what to do.
Ok first remove the bolt from the transmission mount on the front of the trans. close to the radiator. Then remove the two bolts in the front and two bolts inthe back of the brace that runs from the front to the back. Then remove the two braces that bolt the trans. to the engine block. Then remove the two bolts that hold the flex pipe to the exhaust manifold. Then you can remove the oil pan bolts and then the oil pan.I just did this two weeks ago.I took about an hour and a half.Good Luck
Also don't forget to drain the oil prior to all of this.
And to add to what tom said. on the exhaust downpipe you have to remove the two mounting screws aswell. I assume your going to be on your back facing up so the 2 screws will be on you leftside oh the downpipe, and get some PB blast (penetration oil) to spray on the exhuast headers to downpipe bolts. Spray those 2 FIRST before you do anything.
Also you have to drop the cross member that runs under the oil pan and trans. It only has 4 bolts in the frame and 1 bolt for the front mount.
