Lost Serptie Belt
All,
Have you had the serptine belt snap and the car shut itself off? I did today. I have a 2000 Dodge Avenger. I checked the the Timing belt and it is fine and tight. But the car will not start. So I had it towed home. Is there a safety feature in the car that will make the motor turn off and not run? Just wondering. I am used to having a timing belt in good shape work and still be able to drive off the battery?

The battery is low but would this really cause the car to die in seconds notice. I checked the bat and it showed 350 amps. I guess I will replace the belt and see how that works. Nice to get your advice Venge.

I have checked the timing and it is correct. When you start the motor it free spins. I have never seen a serptine belt cause all of this trouble. I have a good battery in the car but it will not start. I have spark in all of plugs. I have no errors coming from the computer. Now looking at the timing belt it seems to be okay but it needs to be changed. I am at a loss for the compression issue? I have checked my oil and there is no water mixed in. Anyone with any ideas?
Thanks.
Thanks.
Check for fuel, If you have spark you may not have fuel, I'm not sure if these cars have an shutoff switch that needs to be reset, fuel pump relay, fuel pump, pressure regulator etc
now you need to find why you have no compression.broken timing belt, bent valves, broken crank shaft or cam shaft.all of these will cause a loss of compression now you have to figure out which it is.
