Default Performance Chips

I am interested in finding out if anyone know which "chip" would work the best in my 97 ES w/ 2.5. I am looking at the Venom 400 but not sure if it the best for performance they claim 25% increase anyone have any knowledge of these?

It's a chip in a box. Seriously, there are no performance "chip" for our cars. There's not enough umphh in the 2.5 or the 2.0 that will allow even the Venom 400 to extract. You would get more power from an exhaust, intake, pulley, etc. than from that and you will gain more out of it.
Seriously, save your money. Our computers are "learning" computers and is made to even out irregularities in regards to what the computer is programmed to "see".

A SAFC would do more than the Venom 400 because you can actually tune out the fuel richness that stock motors are made to run. But, you would have to have a wideband to be sure that you didn't make it too lean and blow up your motor

Thanks,

I'm just trying to get some more power out of the slow thing. It would be nice to be able to out run a smart car :0 and they go 14.4 0 - 60

We all have felt your pain, bro. The best and most economic way to make these motors faster is either by spraying or a turbo. Aside from that, once you've reached a max output for these motors with bolt ons, you'll see that it is still slow, lol. I had the 2.5L and aside from being dependable, there was nothing that could make that little thing go faster except a turbo (for me anyway).

what is the cost/labor involved in adding a turbo? Would it be easier to drop a turbo motor from a recked car that some kid wrapped around a pole?

Howell and Hahn has turbo kits. Those links are found in the FAQ area of this section. There are quite a few links up there actually.
As for labor costs...I couldn't tell you. The only time anyone has ever truly worked on my car was when I had the old 6g73 motor removed in favor of a 2.0L 4g63 and it's AWD components. After that, I've done all my own work.

I'm sure my esteemed Mod forgot that you were talking about the 2.5 ... There are currently no "turbo kits" available ..
Exile was making one but fell off the face of the earth, Although one lucky customer recieved his car back after 2+ years at the FBI and local law enforcement help ..

Disturbing Motorsports is working on one but I believe they are not selling it in kit form , just them installing ....

As for performance chips the venom400 is junk /garbage/a joke ... all it did was cause check engine lights ect ect ...
we tried installing one on the dyno , ran a baseline run and the second run with the venom on yeilded a whopping .9 hp increase and a check engine light (no thanks)

The only V6 performance "chip" that worked was the icon by superchips...unfortunately it was discontinued ...

Thanks BV! I did forget we were talking about the 2.5L, lol. Serves me right for bouncing around between the 2.0 and 2.5 forums.
