Oil pressure fluctuates ?
Its a 98 v6 auto.
Changed oil and was fine for about 300 miles, now at idle the pressure gauge drops but as RPM's reach 2000 comes right back up. Where do I need to look first? Thanks.

Hey guys.
Newb here.
I have a similar problem. The oil pressure in my 1995 ES goes way up as I accelerate. By the time I'm at 60mph my gauge is almost near the top mark. When the car is idle the pressure is below the bottom mark.
This morning I changed the oil again. It still drops below the bottom line in idle but not as much. But it still goes way up once I"m going at over 45mph. This started to happen after my last oil change and I had accidentally overfilled it so I'm guessing it may have had something to do with that. I ran it like that for about three weeks.
The poster above says this car "doesnt like" anything else other than 5w30 though...I'm currently using 15w50 as the car has 150k miles, and weather in Miami is hot, even during winter time.
Any suggestions?

figured id chime in on this as ive seen no real answer. The oil pressure is just that. it will fluxuate. it will do it more so as you have more wear on your motor. the rule of thump is 10psi per 1000rpm. im not sure the stock tollerence on these cars so youd have to hook up a manual guage. so.. if your at idle and you have low oil p but not below the bottom mark thats ok. your oil pump is driven faster at higher rpm so that is why you see the increse when you drive. unless your spewing blue smoke out the back or leaving huge oil puddles.. or your oil looks milky or non of the above but your constantly low on oil... the pressure diff. is normal
