Does anyone know what causes the SRS Airbag dummy light to come on and stay on?

It can be a number of things ... A dealer can scan and tell you the exact cause ...
The most common cause is the clockspring failure in the steering wheel assembly compressing and not making good contact on the air bag itself ...

 

is it in an automatic?

reason i ask is i had the same issue in mine, but i lost overdrive also. after months of digging it came out to be a short in a wire harness that is in the trunk.. (so says dodge)
