Complete Overhaul
I have a 2000 Dodge Avenger ES. (Auto Transmission)
Long story short; our local roads often get flooded. While driving, I hit a deep spot and ended up torching the motor. I’ve been looking into new vehicles, ended up with a Durango for now. (I'm loving the 4x4!)
Here is what I’m looking for and hopefully this forum can help me out!
I’d like to turn the 00 Avenger ES into a project car, hopefully up the power to 300-350hp. I may (and probably will) actually have to add some weight the Avenger, but it might be worth it, we’ll see.
So what I’m wondering is, currently there is a 2.5L Mitsubishi engine, I’ve been told (Haven't confirmed) that I would be able to possibly fit a 3.0 in with no problem. They jammed the crap out of the engine compartment so not really sure how much room I’ll have to play with at all.
Are there any clear swap motors that would produce a good 160-200hp (possibly more, but doubtful it would fit)?
The stock transmission is OKAY, but I’d lean towards a higher performance so it can better handle the new power. Any advice on the tranny as well?
Exhaust systems; anyone previously upgraded to a dual exhaust cat-back system? Or know of some ideas that have worked well??
I don’t claim myself to be a mechanic and only know what I’ve done by ripping apart vehicles and putting them back together – so bear with me !
If you have any advice on a company that is a good source for parts, engines, ect, this information would be great as well! I normally just give a visit to our local junk jards! (hopefully this isn't against ToS/Rules of Forum)
I thank you for your help, look forward to hearing the ideas/comments! I've been thinking about doing this for years since I first drove off the lot with her; the ceised motor I took as a sign! I do a lot of web work for a LED Accessory & HID Conversion company, so I'll end up letting them "rent" my vehicle for trade shows since it will probably sit in the garage until mid summer for the races. Hopefully have this project completed within a year or so. Need to pay off the new Durango note first
EDIT:
I some how missed this older post, https://dodgeforum.com/forum/1995-20...swap-info.html, gives me a deffinate starting point! Engine suppliers? Or should I just keep raiding my local junk yards & craigslist?? Though they may be the same engines - anything specific that works "the best" ?

The 3.0 we use comes from these cars.
2000+ Eclipse
2001+ Sebring
2001+ Stratus
1999+ Galant
I used car-parts.com to locate a local engine , got a low mileage (14K) one for $500...
Tranny I had a performance rebuild from Level 10 , including A high stall convertor ect ..
There have been duals run but it's truly hard to get them to fit.. there is very little room underneath to run them ... Also headers are near impossible to find since there were only 50 sets made ... Disturbing Motorsports is trying to remake them ...
