Default Help with Avenger Starting Issues.

I am trying to help my friend out with his 96 dodge Avenger 2.0. It will start on the very first try if its been sitting all night and crank up flawlessly. However after that, even if you turn it immediately back off, it wont start again until its sat at least several hours. Ive checked his fuel pressure and that hes getting spark, replaced the plugs, wires and coil pack. I also changed his fuel filter recently. Heres where it gets weirder, if you continue trying to start it after the first time and pump the gas rapidly it will eventually get it to start. (takes almost two minutes or so of trying for this method to work) Ive only done that four times to get it to my garage. This friend really does not have the money to take this car to a dealership or professionals garage so any advice or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Ill try it tonight, but if I may ask how could it be the fuel pump if it stays running and has good fuel pressure even when it wont start.

The ASD relay and fuel pump appear to be good.

I have to admit this is the most modern car I have ever worked on, I grew up working on old muscle cars, I just left my garage and I am completely stumped, where on earth is the crank shaft position sensor on this car and how in gods name do I get to it? I'm sure I am going to feel stupid when you explain this but at the moment I am just really put off.
