You might have an oil leak that is not present when the level is low. Fill the car with the correct amount of oil and drive it a few miles then inspect the engine for leaks.

Jiggahnt.. I have fixed all the leaks that I have found so far, I paid like three grand for this car which seemed fine when I bought it.. Lol a few weeks later I found all the oil leaks any garage would be proud of..lol, I was also told that it could be a leak in my intake tho. So I sprayed carb cleaner around but the egine never did anything so I moved on.. Thanks for the advice, I will second check that as well..

I had a similar problem for nearly a year, it was missing and I replaced everything under the sun to get rid of it. I finally ended up replacing my cam and crank sensors (from the dealer) with a new cam target as well, I replaced the computer about 6 months ago due to a no start and still never got rid of the miss, but once I got those sensors in there it's like it doesn't want to stop on the freeway! I love having my car back! I even got pulled over and it felt good! I have a 95 2.0L with the 5 spd. Try this, unplug your cam sensor and crank the car for about 10 seconds, I drove around with my cam sensor unplugged for almost a month it just took like 5-10 seconds to start up. That may lead you down the right path because a cam and crank sensor can cause a miss. (I'm a service writer at a shop now and I see it all day long, just wish I had the job when my car was acting up!) Hope this helps!

Thanks i will try that. I am thinking it is just the spark plugs tho.. when i changed the valve gasket even tho i stopped the leaks in the well some oil still got on the plugs as i took them out. I sprayed them with carb cleaner before putting them back in, they are prolly fouled..

On this tapping.. i was thinking it could be the lash adjusters/lifters, but the only problem with that theory is that it does not tick at idle at all, only while revving from gear to gear, and sometimes i hear a odd tap here an there at a steady speed.. I was also told that a bad lifter can cause miss problems as well..

Thanks for all the help so far guys!

with a crank sensor more likely then not it would not start i had a 96 with the 2.0 that acted like yours is however i bought a new coil pack and the problem was solved except for the light white smoke from the tailpipe i never figured that out as i hydrolocked it and threw a rod out the side when i got the new engine put in no white smoke?? so i dont know what caused the smoke

I know that white smoke could indicate that somehow water is mixing with compustable caponents. The tapping has slowed since I have put in some oil adaptives, but its almost as if I have a weak oil pump. The skipping is pretty much gone tho I have not figured out if it was the new plugs or the fact that I plugged off the vac hose that leaves the egr valve and travels behind the intake. I guess I will have to break down and take it to the dealer, cuz I still have a slight oil leak as well. Thanks for all the help folks!
