Default Code P1786 on a 2000 Avenger 2.5 auto

this just started when it happens the car goes into limp mode. i can shut the car off and back on and drive just fine. i have a code reader and clear the code but is comes back after 1 or 2 days no reason that i can find.

i replaced the TCM and it still does it
the tranny shift just fine, i seems to be a loose wire or a bad connection because it happens so randomly.

there is a sensor or something on the case right hand side with two wire that go to it the last time it happend i dissconnected and reconnected that conector and it let me clear the code and did not come back for a week.

what is that sensor or whatever.
any help would be great
thanks
Truck

what you really need to do is use a real scanner to check out transmission information. the p series engine codes don't lead to accurate diagnosis of transmission problems. you can toss all the parts at it but really never diagnose the problem. sometimes you can get lucky and fix it that way but more often than not, you end up po'd, frustrated and broke.

input speed sensor is a hall effect device and they do seem to be heat sensitive.
takes 10/15 minutes to change
