Default "Rubber against metal"-sound when turning!

Hi!

I've recently got this annoying sound when I turn the steering-wheel, no matter if I drive the car or stand still.

The sound is noticeable when I turn both left and right.

It sounds like rubber against metal

What can it be?

Thanks in advance!

Best regards

Could be ball joints or a CV boot has failed

Hi again!

Thanks!

What would you have bought? The ball joints on ebay costs only $42 incl. shipping international.

I forgot to mention, 2 hours before the sound appeared, I ran over some big holes in the ground (working area), had no warning sounds so I didnt see them, but the car really went "off-road" there.

I also forgot to mention that the power-steering fluid was low, but I filled it up and it doesnt seem to be leaking (yet), so maybe thats not it because the sound is the same when I push the car manually upp and down while it is still and the engine turned off, so maybe it is something with the ball joints, control arm?

Will balljoints from a Mitsubishi galant fit? From -92? My local dealer says galant ball joint from -92 fits galant 93-96 + some other mitsubishi's and Volvo s40?

Best regards

With the large pothole hit , I'd inspect the CV joints... I've seen several cars that have had the struts come thru the pickle fork and damage the boots

I will do that.

Maybe they are the same as Mitsubishi Galant -96? Or Dodge/Chrysler Stratus/Cirrus?

But the stange thing is, would a bad CV joint be making noise when you bump the car up and down by hand (right side)? Can that be the ball joint, upper or lower?

I will order a ball joint (upper) also and if the CV joint is bad I will fix that too, but how will I notice a defective CV joint?

Thanks in advance!

Best regards

Pretty obvious I cannot diagnose over the internet.
YOU will have to do inspection / look over the suspension and check for play/damage/loose/damaged CV boots check for grease everywhere

Parts for the 95/99 eclipse would be the more likely swap parts I can't say on the galant
