Default Engine light on

Hi all,

I have a 1997 Avenger ES 2.5 that has the engine light on. I took it to have the computer codes read and was told it was one of the oxygen sensors, the one in front of the converter. I replace the sensor and for about a week the light stayed off but now is back on. The car is running fine so I have not had the code re-read to see what is going on. I did take the car on a trip of around 75 miles and midway through the trip the light started flashing but the car still ran fine. The light flashed around 9 or 10 times and then stayed on and then the same thing happened until I got to my destination. On my return trip the same thing happened. What possibly could be going on. I need to take another trip and was just wondering if the car was safe to drive that distance again.

Thanks

I had the code read last night and it came back that the engine is misfiring on all 6 cylinders with an oxygen sensor not working. I was told to clear the computer and wait for the light to come back on and then have the codes pulled again. The car is running fine except for the engine light on so hopefully after the codes are reread the actually problem will show up.

Thanks
