Water pump replacement
Hi all,
I have a 1997 Avenger ES 2.5 with 150,000 miles on it. It sounds like the bearings are starting to go out in the water pump. I sprayed PB Blaster on it and the noise went away temporarily but now is back. I would like to know how difficult it is to replace the water pump. I saw the instructions which Bad Venge posted online and it looks very involved and was just wondering if a layman could do it or if it needs to be done by a mechanic in a shop.
Thanks

I also need to add that when I rev up the engine slightly and then take my foot off the accelerator the engine makes a sound the best I can describe it as sounding like a whale call and then after the engine is back at idle it stops. I tried spraying the water pump and alternator bearings with WD-40 but the noise did not go away. Anyone have any ideas what this could be?
