Default Egr Flow insufficient code

This code always seems to pop up on my '97ES. If I'm doing all highway miles it usually take 500miles or so for it to come on, if I'm in the city or doing a little spirited drive it comes on with in just a few minutes. I've pulled the egr valve and the tube off and cleaned everything very well. That seemed to help matters, the light doesn't come on nearly as often now, but it still does. I live in Ohio and make a 700miles trip to georgia every other weekend. With the check engine light off, ,no code, cruise at 75mph non stop, I get around 38mi. to the gallon. Once the light comes on and it throws that code it drops to 31mi doing the same trip. It doesn't seem as peppy either. Should I start off changing the vacumme solinoid first? I just cleaned the valve itself very well, and it seemed to move freely when putting vacumme to it. I hear EGR problems on these cars are very well known. Thanks, puTTs.

I would suggest cleaning your throttle body. You could be getting buildup from the TB into the EGR system. It's a 97 so chances of buildup is pretty good. I would suggest some seafoam or mccc to clean it out, perhaps some in the gas tank too. That'll help with TB (if sucked in through one of the intake openings), combustion chambers, and injectors. I hope this made sense because I'm a little loopy from meds since I'm sick

The EGR tube feeds directly into the intake on the oposite side of the TB through a 5/8" tube. I've cleaned all that as well. I just ordered a new egr UNIT come with the valve, solinoid and new tubes from the dodge store, I'll try that and see what happenes. The car has 173,000miles and that is the only problem, everything else is perfect still. Thanks, puTTs
