Ok Same old question with a twist HELP!!!
Ok, i got this 96 es v6 blah blah blah. i love the car but it's bout to out the door. my gas mileage has dropped to about 180-220 miles per tank. My reaction time for my accelerator is dookie, the motor boggs down before it reacts. My power both acceleration/top speed is so bad bad my uncle in his 93 honda accord wipes the floor with me. I thought it was the fuel filter but right now i tried to change it and when i went to unplugg the pump and let the pressure drain..well lets just say the car is outside still running now. So now it opens a door to about 50 other things it could be. I work to many hors during the week to be fishing out this problem, can anyone tell me how to narrow it down a little
Are you the original owner? For the throttle response...has the throttle body area been cleaned out within the last, umm, 2-3 years? Do you have a CEL? How old are the plugs and wires? What are the plugs gapped to? What kind of wires are you using? When was the last time the distributor rotor changed? When was the last time the PVC valve been changed (not really that significant to your issues, but since I'm at it....)? Check or replace the o2 sensors (do that last). Check the EGR valve (last).
Get your injectors cleaned out along with the TB. There are many places that do that. Or, if you know how to do it, get some MCCC or Seafoam and clean it them out with either. It just sounds like the intake is having a hard time breathing is all.
To relieve the pressure, disconnect the battery, open the gas cap, open the cap on the fuel pump (under the rear seat). That should relieve all pressure in the fuel system. There is obviously a lot of gas gumes floating about so don't smoke or cause any sparks.

Well, replace the filter since you have it. Check the gapping on the plugs, check the rotor on the distributor.
Check the plugs for any signs of how the motor is running. If it's wet with fuel it could mean that you have a weak spark and the fuel is just not burning entirely, it could mean that you're just running even more rich, it could mean that your o2 sensors need to be replaced, come to think of it there's a lot that it could mean, lol. Visually check the wires. If you have a Hayne's or Chilton's manual follow the procedure on checking the o2 sensors. Make sure there isn't a big loose section of throttle cable on the backside of the plenum.
You don't have to replace the plenum gasket because it should be a metal gasket, just make sure you put it back in the same position/spot.
What makes you think that the motor is running rich Supa? A lean condition will cause a motor to bog at low RPMs too. Definitely check your plugs and get back to us.
