1995 Dodge Avenger Stalls
My Avenger has over 225,000 miles. Never had any serious problems with this vehicle until it got over 200K. I think I'm having fuel delivery problems. Engine completely stalled when coming to a stop or slowing down. It drove OK on the highway but stalled when I came to the exit..started back up and stalled again as I slowed to make a turn. I've read some other forum notes on stalls and saw that in some cases and noted that at least 2 fixes appeared to work for the owners (1. replaced crank sensor or 2.
changed computer). I just pd plenty to have a new catalytic converter put on the car because of an intermittent problem with fuel delivery. Engine would act like it was going to stall while accelerating then all of a sudden it would just take off like nothing was wrong...also replaced an O2 sensor. I've read that the Avenger has two O2 sensors but didn't notice if anyone had success with the stalls after installing both. Naturally I'm looking for advice on what could be causing the current problem. Vehicle has a V6 engine. Has anyone had the stall problem I've described...stalling when you are coming to a stop or when you take your foot off of the accelerator? If so have you or your mechanic found a fix? I know that some of the parts on this vehicle were not designed to last over 10 years, 200K. I would like to have some idea of what could cause this problem so that I'm prepared to discuss the repair and ask the right questions.

Have you checked the fuel injectors and the fuel filter? I dunno troubleshoot starting with the basics, spark plugs wires and stuff like that? Also would check your fuel lines to make sure they aren't leaking and your vacuum lines as well.
Thanks, I will start with the basics you've mentioned. Drove the car today and noticed that the fan was running continuosly so we checked the coolant and it was low (my daughter drives the car). I'll be posting the outcome and I'm still open to other suggestions. We don't think it's the fuel pump because the car will drive as long as we don't let it idle. Took a little skill driving with two feet...good thing I learned on a stick. Had to put the car in N when coming to a stop to keep the acceleration in a position to prevent the stall. As noted, the car does just fine as long as you have your foot on the accelerator.
Try taking it to a mechanic [a good mechanic if you can find one, I have two of them!] and having them run a diagnostic. They can tell you if your injectors or sensors are bad. I usually run most of my problems by the tech editor of Mopar Action magazine. He answers most questions if you send a Pay Pal donation.
