96 avenger won't start
The codes are 12 just means that you disconnected the battery and 55 is the end code.
I would drive the car for a little while before you adjust anything since the computer compensates for everything.
I'm really not sure how the dealership codes the TPS since it's just a rheostat. You can adjust the Base Idle Set Screw and lower the idle so lower the idle but I wouldn't do it until you've driven the car around 50 miles or so or a weeks worth of driving so that the computer has time to learn the car again (battery disconnect may have reset the computer + the PCM needs to reset itself to it's new car).

I drove the car twenty miles it did not help maybe even got worse. I agree about the TPS being just rheostat I was just reading the manual. I have never heard of this either . As for a base idle screw I thought the TPS took the place of any idle adjustment? but I will look for it. I will continue to drive it maybe we will install a new TPS over the weekend.

We drove the car about 70 miles the problem is still there. Found a site that told how to check the TPS went thru that it is fine. decided to look at the IAC when we took it out it was in pieces went and got a new one installed it same problem. When we start the car the Rpm's go to about 2500 then slowly fall back to about 1500-1300 then you put it in gear the engines drop to about 1000 put it back in park the engines go's to 2500 and slowly falls back to 1500-1300
Things we checked
Compression 195 psi all cylinders
fuel pressure 42 key on 52 with the engine on
new plugs and wires
can not find any vacum leaks
new air filter
Tryed to adjust the base idle stop( this did not help)
Will a coolant temp. sensor cause this?
Haynes manual states if the TPS is replaced the idle has to be reset by the dealer.I agree with silvercoupe I thought the computer would make adjustment while driving.
So we replaced the computer does any one beleive we need to take it to a dealer and have the idle set.
I'm at the end of my rope with this thing[&o] our son is wanting to drive it bad but I'm afraid the fast idle my cause him a problem being a new driver.
Also did the key dance the computer not showing any codes
Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks
