Default 98 avenger idle problem

hey yall! I have a 98 avenger v6. The other day, i left my lights on and my battery went dead. My dad and I disconnected the battery and charged it to full. When we restarted the car, it ran fine in park, nuetral and drive... while sitting still. When I drive the car, it runs fine, but when I am almost stopped, the car idles very low, very fast and the car dies. Now, if I put the car in nuetral while stopping, and hit the gas up to about 2ooorpm, the car will idle back down to normal, and not stall, and then I am able to drive it again. But if i don't put it in nuetral, and just come to a stop, the car immediately shuts off. I don't understand how a dead battery could have caused this. We had the throttle body cleaned out, because our mechanic said it was probably dirty, but it's still doing the same thing. He(our mechanic) says to put the car in drive and let it sit there for about 5-10 minutes until the computer learns the new idle. it's not helping, it idles fine until I start driving and coming to a stop. Can anybody help me out?

You may have to take it on a 10 minute drive on an interstate to let the computer relearn and reset itself to the proper settings. I don't see any issues other than a dead battery. Don't let it relearn in stop and go traffic just yet, let it reset it's long term fuel trim and then drive it around town so it can relearn it's short term fuel trim.
Now, if a fuse was blown, that's another story, lol.
