Default Car Knowledge

I am still relativly new to this forum. The people in this forum have helped me fix many parts of my car. My 95 dodge avenger is still running strong at 127,000 miles! I have learned a lot about cars by reading the posts on this forum and I have fixed my radiator, tranmission, door handles, and even replaced my air filters and oil myself. (Still working on my cigarette lighter) I have read a lot of debate about which oil to use. My car has had an oil leak for 2 years now and I still do not plan on fixing it because of the amount of money it will cost to repair is ridiculous. During the oil change I performed, I put in Castrol GTX High Millege 10W-40. I live in Florida and I want to know if this will hurt my car in anyway. After I put in the oil, I looked at the Hanyes Manual and it says use 10W-30. Should I change my oil again with 10W-30 or should I just keep topping it off with 10w-30 oil as it leaks out...or is 10-40W better? I'm really confused and I now even wondering if I should convert to synthtic. I know this post isn't as serious as the rest, but I just can not seem to find any answers. Thanks!

If you have an oil leak, stick with the dino oil. Synth has a way of finding openings that were previously caked over by dino oil since it's thin.
10W40 won't hurt, it may even be better than 10w30 since you do have an oil leak. You can go back and forth on the oil weight, just not oil types.

Alright, seems great. I guess I'll stick with the 10w-40 dino oil! Thanks!!!
