Default exhaust piping size

for the purpose of buying a universal muffler...what size piping do we use? i don't have a caliper i can use to check it but it looks to me like 2.5"...i may be wrong though. i was about to grab a flowmaster 40 2.5" O/O...but i just didn't want to get the wrong thing. whenever i search for 2.5l dodge avenger muffler, it pulls up a2.0", a2.25", and a 2.5". best i could do was pull out my pipe wrench and tighten it around the exhaust inlet. came out about a little less than a quarter inch over 2.5". (keep in mind that was the OD, and using a pipe wrench to get a pipe size isn't themost accurate way of doing things...) again, i just don't want to grab the wrong thing. help?

edit: i have the '98 2.5l v6.

yeah between 2-2.25 cuz 2 1/2' is for performance N/A and 3' is for performance Turbo. I not 100% but it seems logical cuz we aint producin enough exhaust for 2 1/2'

okay as of now, i'm fairly confident that it's 2.25". i took a zip tie, tightened it around the exhuast inlet, then cut it off and measured the circumference. circumference was 7.5" about. divide that by pi, you get 2.38". minus wall thickness, about 2.25". am i right?
