Default Replacement Options for 2.5 Dash Speakers?

Hey Everyone- Need some help.. I have a 99 Avenger ES with Infinity and both my dash 2.5 inch speakers are blown. Are these tweeters or just small speakers? I havent been able to find any aftermarket solutions. Any suggestions on replacements. Are there any adjustments that need to be made to the speaker wiring to work with exisiting wiring? Still have factory Infinity Amp. Thanks for your assitance.

those are gonna be tweeters, and i really doubt you'll need to alter any wires. did you check Crutchfield? those guys know more than just about anyone else, and have more too. if nothing pans out, go wrench some out at the bone yard maybe.

What I did was this.

When you take the speakers out and disconnect them you will see that the plastic cover on the speaker is "plastic welded" to the speaker frame. Take a hot blade or a dremel and carefully cut the grill from the speaker’s underside. You then can add any tweeter you wish in the hole and just put the cover back in place.

Be careful when you remove the speakers from their holes so you don't cut or crack your dash. Just use a small flat device like a small flathead screwdriver to pop the speaker out. Take your time and you will make it look like the factory install with MUCH better speakers in the hole.

Also, I used some double sided tape to mount the speakers. I don't know why but in my ES I have to change my front speakers and tweeters about every 2-3 years because they blow. I have an Alpine head and a sub with a 12" in the trunk and I use a natural crossover.

Believe it or not, Bose 301's fit in there and are good replacements. Even Bose 601's. The tweeter size is 3.25".
There's a set being sold on ebay, it's the easiest place to find them too.

^Bose 301 tweeters, again, they are the same size as the stock tweeters.
